The Stanley is the venue everyone’s heard of — the Georgian grand hotel that opened in 1909 and later inspired The Shining, perched above town with views across the Estes Valley. That fame has real consequences for your booking timeline.
Event spaces
Four spaces carry most of the hotel’s weddings. Longs Peak Lawn is the marquee ceremony site: an open lawn with a panoramic Rocky Mountain backdrop, which the hotel’s own venue page puts at up to 200 guests. The Pavilion is the largest reception space, a 250-seat glass-door auditorium with more than 8,000 square feet of banquet room set against a private pond. At the small end, the Library is a 1,089-square-foot room with its own veranda, set for gatherings of up to 40. Lodge Manor is the room the hotel markets for rehearsal dinners and family parties: 60 guests, in a 4:00–10:00 p.m. window. Every one of these figures comes from the hotel’s own space pages, which the hotel reorganized in August — the Lodge Manor page moved to a new URL and its published capacity was revised. Confirm the number for your room with sales before you send invitations.
What it costs
The hotel publishes no venue fees on its own site. Any figure you find on a third-party listing is a starting point at best, and it will depend on your date, your space, and your guest count. Ask for a current quote: sales@stanleyhotel.com, or the hotel at 970-577-4000.
What to know
- Book early. Wedding site tours are by appointment only, so the sales office is your first call — ask how far out their calendar is already open before you fix a date.
- Your guests will want rooms. On-site lodging is a real convenience, but rooms here sell to the general public too. Arrange room blocks when you book the venue, not after.
- The public is part of the deal. The hotel sells five walking tours — historic, ghost, Shining, whiskey vault, and Frozen Dead Guy — so you’ll be sharing the public rooms with ticketed visitors. The grounds are private property, and the hotel asks that all wedding-related visits and photography be coordinated and contracted in advance. If you want a property to yourselves, Della Terra and Black Canyon Inn are worth a look.
- Indoor backup exists here. Outdoor-only venues have to improvise when a July afternoon storm rolls in. The Stanley has indoor rooms to move into — just make sure the one you want is written into your contract.
Rehearsal dinner nearby
On-site, Lodge Manor is the room the hotel itself markets for rehearsal dinners: 60 guests, with the room available 4:00–10:00 p.m. The hotel’s restaurant lineup changed in 2026: Cascades now bills itself as relaxed American fare and a separate dinner-only chophouse, MacGregor, carries the steaks. Neither lists a private room on its own dining pages — ask the events team what a closed-door dinner in either would involve. If you want a change of scene and a more relaxed night, The Bull Pin is a short drive down the hill — bowling, arcade, and a private-events menu that works well as a contrast to a formal Stanley wedding day.
