Black Canyon Inn is a 14-acre historic property on the north side of town: ponderosa pines, a stone lodge, an outdoor ceremony site, and resident elk. It’s been hosting Estes Park weddings for decades, and it delivers the classic Colorado mountain wedding without the Stanley’s tourist traffic.
Event spaces
Black Canyon Inn runs two distinct wedding venues. The Homestead is a 1929 log building with vaulted, beamed ceilings and fireplaces across two levels; it seats up to 100 for a reception and comes with a covered outdoor ceremony pavilion, a cocktail lawn, bar service, and off-site catering. The Boulders, the newer building at the top of the property, is the larger option — two levels of indoor and outdoor space, floor-to-ceiling windows, a wraparound deck, two getting-ready rooms, and its own in-house catering and bar. It handles up to 200 guests. Both include day-of coordination, and the property also books smaller micro-weddings and elopements.
On-site lodging — hotel suites plus one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos and cabins — lets the wedding party and most guests stay within walking distance of both venues, with block rates for wedding guests. Wedding and event sales: (970) 652-8544.
What it costs
Mid-to-premium for the Estes Park market. Like most venues in town, fees vary by season and day — confirm current rates directly.
What to know
- Privacy is the differentiator. Unlike the Stanley, the property is yours — no tour groups in the background.
- The pines matter for weather. Tree cover gives partial shelter for the outdoor site, but have the indoor plan ready for July afternoon storms.
- MacGregor Avenue elk traffic. Allow buffer time for the drive — the elk herd that frequents this side of town stops traffic regularly, and it will charm your guests exactly once.
